Gianna received her J.D. in 2009 and her LL.M. in International Business & Trade Law in 2012, both from John Marshall. Currently, Scatchell is working on her second LL.M. in Information Technology & Privacy Law (also from John Marshall). Scatchell independently started her law firm, which concentrated on the intersection of law and technology focusing on privacy-based litigation including invasion of privacy claims sounding in cyber-bullying, defamation, and revenge porn. Gianna was CEO and co-founder of an online marketplace platform, Run the Call, which served as an “Uber for lawyers” looking to find on-demand court coverage servicing all 102 counties in Illinois and which was featured in several press outlets including Crain’s Chicago Business. Gianna also counseled law enforcement agencies and schools to address the unique challenges that technology causes in terms of privacy, compliance, online bullying and criminal behavior. Gianna has also worked as special outside counsel for various mid-size firms and Big Law firms. In 2018, Gianna was selected as a Top 40 under 40 Attorney by The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin & Chicago Lawyer Magazine – a prestigious honor that recognizes up-and-coming attorneys across Illinois. These individuals are nominated by their peers and chosen by the CDLB & CL selection committee based on career accomplishments and service to the community.
As the proud daughter of a retired police Lieutenant and sister of a former police officer, Gianna understands the unique challenges facing law enforcement today. This upbringing helped shape her commitment to helping worker rights and particularly civil servants. Gianna focuses her practice on public employee civil rights (including First Amendment, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family Medical Leave Act), employee discrimination and retaliation, civil service commission defense defending public employees facing discipline.
