Kraft announced it is voluntarily recalling 260 cases of Velveeta Original Pasteurized Recipe Cheese product after finding that the affected products lack the food preservative sorbic acid.
The company stated that although unlikely, an inadequate amount of food preservative on cheese products may lead to premature spoilage, which increases the risk of foodborne illnesses. Consumers are advised not to consume Velveeta Original Pasteurized Recipe Cheese products with case UPC code 10021000611611, consumer package UPC code 021000611614, and a date code Dec. 17, 2014 with a timestamp of 09:34 – 13:15.
The recalled products were distributed to different Wal-Mart stores across 12 different states, including Illinois.
