Harley-Davidson is recalling more that 300,000 motorcycles because of an issue with brake lights.

The brake light switches are exposed to too much heat from the exhaust system, and that can lead to the lights failing, according to the company. This can also cause a fluid leak that could make the rear brakes go out. This malfunction is seen in the Touring, CVO Touring, and Trike models from 2009-2012.

Harley-Davidson said the problem was first identified in June 2010, when it received a report of a Trike that lost its rear brakes. Later that year a crash in Louisiana, which injured one person, was possibly linked to the same issue.

Harley said that it will notify owners of the recall and that official Harley dealers will install a new rear brake light switch free of charge.

If you own one of these bikes, you should make sure to have that switch fixed as soon as possible. However, if you have already suffered a personal injury due to this malfunction, you may be entitled to compensation.
